Ecru Japanese Selvedge Needlecord Five-Pocket Trousers
Drake's applies the familiar five-pocket jean pattern to a fine Japanese selvedge needlecord rather than denim, which gives a softer and slightly more dressed alternative to workwear trousers. They are made in Portugal in an undyed ecru shade, with slanted front pockets and copper rivets at the points of strain. The leg tapers and is shown finishing a little above the ankle, so they work with tailored jackets and knitwear as well as with casual shirts.

Italian Stone Cotton Corduroy 5-Pocket Pant
We chose Proper Cloth's Italian stone corduroy as the closest all-cotton cord in a pale, undyed-looking shade, since its range offers no selvedge needlecord. We set the cut as a five-pocket trouser with belt loops, a zip fly, copper metal tack buttons, a coin pocket and no pleats, to follow the original's layout. Proper Cloth's cord is a 12-wale cloth at 525 g, so it has a wider rib and much more weight than the Drake's needlecord, and we accepted that as the nearest option. The pattern was made in Proper Cloth's high-rise straight fit with a chain-stitched hem, rather than the tapered leg of the original.
An Italian 100% cotton corduroy with a 12-wale rib and a soft, velvety pile, woven at about 525 g, which puts it among the heavy cords. It is a plain stone colour with no pattern. Because it contains no stretch fibre, it should soften and fade gradually with wear and keep the creases and marks it acquires.
