Custom Wash 14.2oz Selvedge Denim Painter Pants
Drake's painter pants are a relaxed denim trouser drawn from the work clothes once worn by tradesmen and decorators. They are cut high in the rise and full through the thigh and knee, narrowing slightly towards the hem. Utility details such as a side tool pocket, bar-tacked back pockets and contrast stitching recall their workwear roots, while the slanted front pockets and clean finish keep them suited to everyday wear away from the workshop. They are made in Portugal.

Dean Stretch Relaxed Jean in Salt Wash Japanese Denim
We chose a medium-wash Japanese indigo denim to match the faded mid-blue of the original, and Proper Cloth's relaxed cut, its fullest, to come close to the generous thigh and knee. We set a metal button fly, belt loops, a coin pocket and gold thread to echo the tan contrast stitching. Proper Cloth offers a five-pocket jean pattern rather than a painter's trouser, so we accepted scooped jean front pockets in place of the slanted ones and went without the side tool pocket. Proper Cloth does not offer a cotton and linen selvedge denim, so we used a cotton denim with a little stretch.
A 12oz indigo denim woven in Japan in a medium wash, mostly cotton with 2% elastane for a slight give. It is a solid mid-blue of moderate weight, firm enough to keep a fuller cut in shape, and comfortable to wear for much of the year.
