Beige Cotton Wide Leg Single-Pleat Shorts
Drake's single-pleat shorts take the house chino pattern and shorten it to mid-thigh, keeping the proportions of a tailored trouser. They are cut from a Japanese cotton twill of chino weight, heavy enough to fall straight and soft enough to wear comfortably from new. The rise sits mid to high, the leg is wide, and a single forward pleat on each side adds room through the hip. They are made in Italy and meant for warm weather, worn with a belt and a tucked or loose shirt.

Di Sondrio Khaki Heavyweight Heirloom Chino
We chose a solid khaki cotton twill from Tessuti di Sondrio, as it is the closest match in colour and weave among Proper Cloth's chino cloths, though it is a good deal heavier than the original. We set the pattern to match the original: single pleats, angled side pockets, a zip fly with a button waistband, belt loops and horn buttons. Proper Cloth's options led us to chestnut horn buttons rather than the darker buttons on the original, a button-through tab at the waistband, and its standard hem.
A dense 3-ply cotton twill woven in Italy by Tessuti di Sondrio, listed at 535 g, with a smooth finish and a firm, substantial hand. It is a plain khaki, made in the style of mid-century military officer chinos, and it should wear hard and soften slowly with use.
