Tobacco Lightweight Cotton Canvas Carpenter Pant
This is a carpenter trouser in tobacco cotton canvas, drawn from American workwear made for the building trades. It keeps the working details of that tradition: a double knee, twin-needle seams, copper rivets and a utility pocket on the leg. The block is a straight leg with a mid-rise, and slanted side pockets make it easier to wear day to day. It is made in Portugal from a rinse-washed Japanese canvas that should soften and turn matte as it is worn.

Biella Hazel Stretch Textured Moleskin 5-Pocket
Proper Cloth does not offer a carpenter pattern or a lightweight brown canvas, so we chose a garment-washed hazel moleskin at a similar weight per square metre, close to the tobacco shade and with a dry, matte surface. We built it on the five-pocket pattern, the nearest workwear block available, and set a button fly, copper metal tack buttons, belt loops, a flat front and a coin pocket to follow the original. We could not specify the double knee, the leg utility pocket or the slanted side pockets, so the trouser has jeans-style scoop pockets and patch back pockets instead.
A hazel moleskin woven in Italy by Olimpias and supplied through Progetto Uno, at about 285 g, in cotton with 2% elastane. The cloth is plain in colour, with a raised texture and a soft, brushed hand. It is garment washed, so it should fade gently over time, and moleskin is a dense, hard-wearing cloth.
