Grey Prince of Wales Check Single Pleat Trouser
A pleated trouser cut in grey Prince of Wales check, the Glenurquhart pattern long linked with the British royal household that gave it its common name. Drake's makes it in a sturdy woollen flannel with a single reverse pleat for ease of movement and a gentle taper below the knee for a clean, straight line. The waist is finished in a traditional tailoring style with an extended tab, French bearer and side adjusters in place of belt loops. It is offered on its own or as part of a suit with a matching double-breasted jacket.

VBC Grey Glen Plaid Wool Flannel Dress Pant
We chose a grey glen plaid merino flannel from Vitale Barberis Canonico because it comes closest to the original's grey all-wool flannel and medium-scale check, although its contrast is lower. We matched the single pleats, the extended button tab with zip fly, dark horn-coloured buttons and side seam pockets. The version as made has belt loops instead of side adjusters and a knee lining instead of a half lining, and it was ordered without turn-ups, while the original ships with unfinished hems.
A 100% merino wool flannel from Vitale Barberis Canonico in Biella, medium heavyweight, with a brushed, soft surface. The grey glen plaid is low in contrast, with gentle tonal variation rather than a sharp check. The cloth is suited mainly to autumn and winter.
