Ecru Lightweight Cotton Canvas Five-Pocket Jeans
Drake's five-pocket trouser takes the familiar shape of a pair of jeans and makes it in canvas instead of denim. The cloth is a lightweight French cotton canvas, and the trousers are made in Portugal. The cut has a slightly higher rise and a relaxed leg that tapers towards the hem. They are meant as everyday trousers that can be worn casually or with tailoring, much as a pair of jeans would be.

Natural Undyed Canvas 5-Pocket Pant
We chose an undyed natural cotton canvas woven in Portugal because its unbleached ecru tone and plain, unfinished surface are close to the original's cloth. We set the trousers up as a jeans-style five-pocket with patch back pockets, a coin pocket, belt loops, a zip fly and copper metal buttons, and left them without pleats. Proper Cloth offered a high-rise straight fit rather than a relaxed taper, so we used that. The canvas available was a heavier 12oz cloth rather than one near 9.7oz, and we finished the hems with a chain stitch.
A plain-weave cotton canvas from Portugal, around 12oz, left undyed and untreated so it keeps a warm natural ecru colour. Proper Cloth's listing also gives the fibre as a blend of cotton and recycled cotton. It has no stretch and a firm, rigid body, so it should start stiff and soften as it is worn and washed.
