Ecru Cotton Canvas Panel Trousers
Drake's panel trousers are a pair of heavyweight cotton canvas work trousers, offered as a plainer alternative to jeans. Their panelled legs refer to the old carpenter's trouser, in which extra sections of cloth reinforced the areas that took the most wear in a workshop. They are cut relaxed through the seat and thigh, with a straight leg and a mid-rise, and are meant for everyday casual wear in the way denim would be. They are made in Portugal.

Natural Undyed Canvas 5-Pocket Pant
We chose an undyed 12oz cotton canvas from Portugal because it closely matches the weight, ecru colour and dry, rigid hand of the original cloth. We then set the details to follow the Drake's pair: a button fly, angled front pockets, flapped rear pockets that button through, belt loops and brown horn buttons. Proper Cloth does not offer panelled legs, twin-needle seams or side adjusters, so the trousers are made without them, and we used the vintage chino cut with a straight leg, which sits higher than the Drake's mid-rise.
This is a plain-weave canvas woven in Portugal at around 12oz. It is left undyed and unfinished, which gives it a warm natural ecru and a firm, dry body with no stretch. Proper Cloth's listing gives the fibre as cotton, partly recycled. A canvas like this starts stiff and softens and creases with wear and washing.
