Ecru 12.7oz Selvedge Denim Five-Pocket Shorts
A pair of five-pocket shorts cut from undyed ecru selvedge denim, following the pattern of classic work jeans shortened for warm weather. The cloth is a 12.7oz denim woven in Italy, and the shorts are made up in Portugal. They have a slightly higher rise and a relaxed, tapered leg, with copper rivets, contrasting stitching and slanted front pockets. They are intended as plain, sturdy summer wear in a light neutral colour.

Cody Stretch Vintage Straight Jean in Cream Japanese Denim
We looked for a heavy, pale denim close to the original's ecru and chose a 14oz cream Japanese denim, the nearest in colour and substance. Proper Cloth makes this cloth up as a full-length jean rather than shorts, so we kept the five-pocket layout, button fly, belt loops and a gold-toned thread in place of the tan contrast stitching. Its Vintage Straight cut gives a higher rise like the original's, though the leg is straight rather than tapered. The cloth has 2% elastane, which is within our tolerance, and it is not described as selvedge.
A 14oz off-white denim woven in Japan by Nihon Menpu, a cotton blend with 2% elastane. It has a dry, firm hand and keeps a structured shape despite the pale colour. Like other heavy denims, it should soften with wear and washing.
