Ecru Cotton Drawstring Trousers
A pair of loose work trousers modelled on the baggy, cuffed trousers worn by tobi shokunin, the Japanese construction workers who spend their days scaffolding and lifting. The high rise, full leg and doubled knees come from that working background. A flat drawstring waist and drawcords at the ankle let the leg hang straight or be gathered in. They are made to be worn often and hard, and they gain character as they wear.
In Proper Cloth
Japanese Bone Herringbone Fatigue Pant
We chose a Japanese cotton in a faded bone shade, the closest match Proper Cloth offers to Drake's ecru, and accepted a herringbone weave and a heavier cloth to keep the colour and origin of the cloth. We set a drawstring elastic waistband and angled side pockets to match the original, with a square patch pocket at the back. Proper Cloth has no drawcord ankle, so we chose the jogger cut to gather the leg at the ankle instead. It also has no reinforced double knees, so the Proper Cloth pair is made without them.
A Japanese cotton twill woven in a herringbone, in a faded bone off-white. At about 350 g it is a medium to heavy casual cloth with a visible texture, and it should soften and fade with washing and wear.
