White Oxford Cotton Cloth Button-Down Shirt
Drake's treats the oxford cloth button-down as central to its range, and this white version is its attempt at a definitive one. The style goes back about a century and has stayed close to its first form. Drake's makes it in its own Somerset factory, with a regular cut, single-needle seams and a floating interlining that lets the collar roll softly. It is meant to sit under a jacket and tie or be worn open on its own.
In Proper Cloth
Clark White Oxford Cloth
We chose a solid white oxford in all cotton to match the original's plain colour and its slightly textured basket weave. The available oxford is a heavy one, so our version has more substance than Drake's midweight cloth. We used Proper Cloth's soft button-down collar, soft front placket, chest pocket, curved hem and mother of pearl buttons to keep the relaxed character of the original. Where the options differed, we took a one-button barrel cuff in place of a rounded cuff, and an angled pocket with a split yoke.
A white oxford cloth in Pima cotton, built as a heavy oxford with a finer warp and a plied weft. The mill is not named. It feels substantial without being thick, has the faint texture of an oxford weave, and is said to soften and improve with repeated washing.
