White Cotton Spread Collar Poplin Shirt

A plain white poplin shirt with a spread collar, made at Drake's own factory in Somerset. The idea is a smooth, lightweight shirt that works as well on a weekday in the office as it does at the weekend. A brushed interlining floats inside the collar so that it stays soft and shapes itself to the neck, and the shirt is finished with single rounded cuffs and mother of pearl buttons sewn by hand.

Thomas Mason White Luxury Broadcloth

We chose a white two-ply Egyptian cotton broadcloth from Thomas Mason, because it is the closest Proper Cloth equivalent to a fine, smooth poplin with a slight sheen. We matched the spread collar, the front placket, the single-button cuff, the curved hem and the mother of pearl buttons, and left off the chest pocket. Proper Cloth does not offer a floating collar interlining or a rounded cuff in the same terms, so we chose its soft collar and cuff construction to keep the relaxed feel and used its one-button barrel cuff.

A white broadcloth woven by Thomas Mason from Egyptian cotton in 120s two-ply yarns. It is very light, smooth and silky to the hand, and suits wear across the seasons. The fine, close weave creases fairly readily but presses quickly back to a crisp finish.

Care
While the fine weave and high thread count of this broadcloth don’t make for the most wrinkle-resistant style, it irons up beautifully in a flash. Finish: No Treatment.
