Mid-Blue Cotton Oxford Cloth Button-Down Shirt
This is a plain mid-blue oxford button-down, a shirt type that has stayed in steady use for about a hundred years and that Drake's treats as central to its range. Drake's makes it in its own factory in Somerset. It has a regular cut, single-needle seams and a collar with a brushed interlining that is left floating, so the points curve rather than lie flat. It is meant for general use, worn smart or casual.
In Proper Cloth
Washed Royal Blue Lightweight Oxford
We chose a solid blue Proper Cloth oxford that has been washed for a softer, worn-in hand, to match the plain mid-blue and the relaxed character of the original. We set a soft unlined button-down collar to get close to the rolled points, along with a soft front placket, a single chest pocket, a curved hem and mother of pearl buttons. Proper Cloth offers no rounded single cuff matching Drake's, so we used a soft one-button barrel cuff. Its cloth is a lighter oxford than a classic heavy one, which suits warmer weather.
A 100% cotton oxford in a solid blue, woven to be lighter and more breathable than Proper Cloth's heavier oxfords. It is washed before making up, so it feels soft from the first wear, and it keeps the slight texture and durability of oxford cloth, which softens further with washing.
