Red, Blue and Green Madras Check Cotton Mandarin Collar Popover Shirt
Drake's long-sleeved popover is cut from a light madras check in red, teal, yellow and navy on white. It is meant to look better as it fades, with a slightly crumpled surface. The band collar, half placket and single chest pocket give it the easy shape of an older pull-over shirt, and it is made in Italy with single-needle seams. It is meant for warm weather and casual wear.

Tomato Gold and Navy Indian Madras
We chose a very lightweight Indian madras because its plain weave, soft hand and pre-faded colour come closest to the rumpled, sun-washed look of the original. Its tomato, gold and navy check matches the red, yellow and navy of the Drake's cloth, but it has no teal. We set a grandad collar, a popover front, one chest pocket and mother of pearl buttons to match. Proper Cloth has no map pocket or rounded cuff with a floating interlining, so we chose a single square pocket and a soft one-button barrel cuff.
The cloth is a madras woven in Chennai, India, from 40s single-ply cotton in a plain weave. It is very light, soft and airy. The plaid is detailed, in tomato red, gold and faded navy. It has been faded during finishing, so it should not bleed in the wash, and it keeps the slightly worn look madras is known for.
