Navy Duck Block Print Cotton Camp Collar Short Sleeve Shirt

The camp collar holiday shirt is an old warm-weather type, known by several names over the decades but little changed in its essentials: short sleeves, an open collar and a square hem. Drake's version keeps to that plain outline and puts the interest in the cloth, a light cotton printed by hand with blocks in a small repeating duck motif, ecru on navy. It is cut loose, with a plain front and a straight hem, and made in Portugal for wear untucked in high summer.

Albiate Slate and White Micro Print

We chose a lightweight plain-weave printed cotton from Albiate because it matches the original's weight, weave and fibre, and its small pale-on-dark print gives a similar busy, allover effect. No duck or block-printed cloth was available, so we accepted a geometric micro print on a slate ground in place of the navy and ecru animal motif. The design was set to follow the original closely: a soft one-piece collar worn open in the camp manner, a plain French front, short sleeves, no pocket, a straight hem and mother of pearl buttons.

A smooth, lightweight cotton from Albiate, part of the Albini Group, woven in a single-ply 70s plain weave suited to fine printing. It is printed with tiny white and navy geometric shapes in a mosaic-like arrangement on a slate ground, and it handles crisply without feeling fragile.
