Red and Green Madras Check Cotton-Linen Two-Pocket Work Shirt
This is a long-sleeved work shirt in a light cotton and linen madras, made in Somerset. It takes the plain, practical utility shirt and cuts it in a bright summer check, so it can serve outdoors or in town. Two deep buttoned chest pockets, a stand collar and rounded one-button cuffs keep it simple and easy to move in, and it is finished with fisheye corozo buttons and single-needle stitching. It is meant to be worn loosely and casually in warm weather.

Tomato Gold and Navy Indian Madras
We chose an Indian madras from Proper Cloth because it has the same open, airy weave and large bright check as the original, but Proper Cloth offers no cotton and linen madras, so the cloth is all cotton. We set two flapped chest pockets, one-button cuffs, a front placket and natural corozo buttons to follow the work shirt. Proper Cloth has no stand collar option, so we used a soft point collar, and its pocket flaps are rounded where Drake's are pointed. The colours lean towards tomato red, gold and faded navy rather than red and green.
The cloth is a very lightweight plain-weave madras woven in Chennai, India, from 40s single-ply cotton, so it feels soft and airy. Its check is an intricate plaid in tomato red, gold and faded navy. It has been given some fade at the mill, so its colours should not run when it is washed.
