Yellow and Red Madras Check Cotton-Linen Button-Down Shirt
A long-sleeved summer shirt in a large madras check of pale yellow and red, with lavender, light blue and orange running through it. Its cloth draws on the handwoven madras of Chennai, where hand-spun short-staple yarn gives the fabric an uneven, slubby surface. The shirt is made in Italy with single-needle seams, a button-down collar recalling mid-century Ivy dress, and whipped mother of pearl buttons. It is cut to be worn casually in warm weather, with light trousers and loafers.

Tomato Gold and Navy Indian Madras
We chose a Chennai-woven madras in a bright plaid because it keeps the origin, the light hand and the bold check of the original, although no cotton-linen madras was available, so the cloth is all cotton. Its red and gold set the colour on a warm footing near the original, with navy taking the place of the lavender and light blue. We matched the soft button-down collar, one-button cuffs, front placket, chest patch pocket and mother of pearl buttons. Our design has a one-piece yoke with no back box pleat and a plain rounded pocket with no pen slot.
A very lightweight plain-weave madras woven in Chennai from single-ply 40s cotton, soft and open in the hand. Its intricate plaid combines a strong tomato red, gold and a faded navy, and the cloth is finished with some fade already in it so that the colours should not run in home washing.
