Yellow, Red and Blue Madras Check Cotton Button-Down Shirt
Drake's long-sleeved button-down is cut from a madras check of yellow, red and blue, woven in India from hand-spun cotton and made up in Italy. The cloth is coloured with natural dyes that run a little in the wash, so the check softens over time, much as madras did in mid-century Ivy League dress. The shirt follows the house's classic cut, with a brushed floating interlining in the collar, a patch pocket with a pen slot, a box pleat and locker loop at the back, and whipped mother-of-pearl buttons. It suits warm weather and casual wear.

Tomato Gold and Navy Indian Madras
We chose an Indian madras woven in Chennai because it has the light, open plain weave of the original and a similar mix of red, gold and blue in a busy check. We set a soft, unstructured button-down collar, a one-button cuff, a front placket, a curved hem and mother-of-pearl buttons to match the Drake's shirt. Proper Cloth offers an angled chest pocket rather than a pen-slot patch pocket, so we used that. Its cloth is also faded before it is sold, so it will not bleed and fade with washing the way the original's natural dyes do.
A very lightweight madras woven in Chennai, India, as a plain weave from 40s single-ply cotton, giving a soft, airy hand. The plaid is tomato red, gold and faded navy. It is faded at the mill, so the colours already look softened and should stay steady through home washing.
