Red Check Cotton Two-Pocket Work Shirt
Drake's work shirt draws on the plain, hard-wearing shirts of the workshop and the outdoors, and is meant to be worn as readily at the bench as at the weekend. It is cut from a heavy Japanese cotton with a slubbed surface and made in Somerset with single-needle seams. The two flapped chest pockets carry small things without loading the trousers, and the shirt is designed to be worn loose over jeans or work trousers, or open as a light overshirt.

Japanese Red and Black Ombre Plaid Flannel
We chose a heavy Japanese cotton flannel in red and black plaid, the closest match among Proper Cloth's cloths for the weight, warmth and colouring of the original. We set a soft point collar, soft one-button barrel cuffs, a soft front placket, two rounded flap pockets, a shallow curved hem and natural corozo buttons to follow the Drake's details. The cloth's plaid is softer and blurred where the original has a crisp check with an ecru overstripe, and we accepted that difference rather than move away from the right weight and colour.
A heavyweight cotton flannel woven in Japan from 20s single-ply yarn in a distinct twill, dense and soft, with a lightly brushed face. Red and black shade into one another to form a muted plaid with blurred edges. It is a warm cloth for cold weather that should soften further with washing.
