Ecru Linen Short Sleeve Camp Collar Military Shirt
Drake's made this short sleeve shirt as a summer counterpart to its military-inspired shirting. It keeps the working details of that family, with large gusseted chest pockets, knife pleats and a camp collar, and cuts them in a garment washed Japanese linen so the shirt is lighter and easier in hot weather. It is meant for everyday wear, worn loose and untucked, and has a slightly rugged character. It is made in Portugal.

Japanese Washed Off White Heavy Rustic Linen
We chose an off-white Japanese linen because it is close to the original's ecru colour and is also washed after sewing, so it has a similar softened, lived-in finish. We used a one piece collar to match the camp collar, safari pockets for the gusseted flap pockets, a one piece yoke, a straight hem and natural corozo buttons. The only Japanese washed linen in this colour is a heavy twill, so our version has much more body than Drake's lightweight cloth. Proper Cloth's short sleeve option here has a cuff, and we used a French front, which leaves the front without a placket.
The cloth is a 100% linen twill woven in Japan at about 348 gsm, which makes it closer in weight and body to a heavy cotton than to a typical summer linen. It is off white, with a clear diagonal twill and natural slubs that give the surface texture. Shirts in this cloth are washed after sewing, so they feel soft and broken in, with some puckering at the seams. The cloth creases readily and gets softer with wear.
