Navy Cotton Flannel Button-Down Shirt
Drake's navy flannel button-down is a long-standing part of its shirt range, cut from a brushed cotton that is soft but has real body. It is made at the company's own factory in Somerset, England. The collar has a brushed, floating interlining so it rolls naturally instead of sitting flat and stiff, and a box pleat at the back gives room through the shoulders. It is a casual shirt for cooler months, worn alone or under knitwear and soft tailoring.

Thomas Mason Navy Melange Cotton and Cashmere Flannel
We chose a navy brushed flannel from Thomas Mason because it is close to the original in colour and weight and has the same soft surface. Its cashmere content and melange yarn make it a little richer in hand and less flat in colour than Drake's solid cotton. We set a soft button-down collar, a soft front placket, a one-button cuff, a single chest pocket and a curved hem to follow the original. Proper Cloth's options led us to an angled pocket in place of the rounded patch, a barrel cuff in place of the rounded cuff, and mother-of-pearl buttons.
A Thomas Mason flannel of 85% cotton and 15% cashmere in 60s yarns, woven as a clear twill and lightly brushed, so the surface is soft and warm but stays fairly smooth. It is a medium-weight navy melange that reads as solid from a distance. It shrinks more than ordinary shirting and should be air dried.
