Navy Check Brushed Cotton Two-Pocket Work Shirt
This is a two-pocket work shirt in a brushed Japanese cotton, made in Italy. It takes its lead from the utility shirts of the workshop, with paired flap pockets for carrying small things and a sturdy, softened cloth. Finishing is careful: single-needle seams, corozo buttons and a light floating interlining in the collar and cuffs. It is intended to be worn on its own or open as a light layer, as much at weekends as at work.

Navy Glen Plaid Low Twist
We chose a heavy navy glen plaid twill spun from low-twist, three-ply yarns, because its softness and uneven surface come closest to the slubbed, brushed character of the original. We matched the two flap chest pockets, the one-button cuffs, the curved hem and the corozo buttons, and kept the build soft. Proper Cloth does not offer the original's stand collar in this form, so we used a soft spread collar instead, and the plaid is a finer glen check rather than a large open check.
A very heavy cotton twill woven from 20s three-ply yarns given fewer twists than usual, which leaves the yarn looser and gives the cloth a rustic surface and a soft hand. Three yarn colours plied together produce a mottled dark navy glen plaid. The weight makes it suited to colder months, and the plied yarn adds durability.
