Blue Check Brushed Cotton Two-Pocket Work Shirt
Drake's two-pocket work shirt draws on the plain, hard-wearing shirts of the workshop and recasts them in a softer cloth for everyday wear. This version is cut from a Japanese brushed cotton with a slubbed surface, woven as a twill in a large navy, ecru and brown check, and made up in Italy with single-needle seams. It is meant to be worn loosely, either alone or as a light layer over a T-shirt, with the twin flap pockets holding small items so that trouser pockets stay clear.

Portuguese Navy and Blue Plaid Twill
We looked for a soft cotton twill in a bold check that could stand in for a brushed cloth, and chose a Somelos twill in navy and blue, which keeps the cool, dark base of the original but not its ecru and brown. We matched the working details where Proper Cloth allows: two rounded flap chest pockets, single-button cuffs, a curved hem and natural corozo buttons. Proper Cloth has no collar matching Drake's short rounded point, so we chose a soft Franklin spread, and we kept the construction soft so the collar and cuffs stay unstructured like the floating interlining on the original.
A single-ply 50s cotton twill woven by Somelos in Portugal, soft in the hand and made for autumn and winter wear. It carries a contrasting plaid of navy and brighter blue, and although Proper Cloth lists it as lightweight, it is described as having enough body to serve as a smoother alternative to flannel.
