White Selvedge Denim Long Point Collar Work Shirt
A plain work shirt in white Japanese selvedge denim, made at Drake's own factory in Somerset. It draws on military and workwear shirting, most clearly in the single chest pocket with a box pleat and buttoned flap. The long point collar and rounded one-button cuffs are given a brushed floating interlining, and the whole shirt is sewn with single-needle seams. It is cut with a curved hem and meant to be worn casually, tucked or loose, for work and for the weekend.
In Proper Cloth
Japanese Heavyweight Natural Chambray
We chose a heavyweight undyed Japanese chambray because it comes closest among Proper Cloth's solids to the pale ecru colour and the solid, sturdy body of the white denim. We matched the single flap chest pocket, the one-button cuffs, the curved hem and the mother of pearl buttons, and picked soft, unfused collar and cuff styles to stand in for the floating interlining. Proper Cloth does not offer selvedge denim in this colour, a box-pleated military pocket or a long point collar by that name, so we used a plain weave chambray, a standard flap pocket and a soft point collar. The split yoke and casual wash come with this cloth and pattern.
A heavyweight plain weave chambray in 100% cotton, woven in Japan from 16s yarn in an undyed natural shade. It has a visible weave and a firm hand, much like an oxford, and the shirt is washed after sewing, which softens it and leaves some puckering at the seams. It softens further as it is worn.
