Indigo Dyed Cotton Jersey Long-Sleeve Polo Shirt
This is a long-sleeved polo shirt knitted from a substantial cotton pique and dyed with indigo, made in Portugal. It takes the familiar sporting polo and gives it a more finished treatment, with a ribbed collar, ribbed cuffs, a stepped hem and mother-of-pearl buttons on a two-button placket. The idea is a knitted shirt that is comfortable on casual days but neat enough to wear with tailoring or under a jacket.
In Proper Cloth
Light Slate Linen Knit Jersey
We kept the long sleeves, the two-button placket, the mother-of-pearl buttons and the plain, pocketless front, so the shirt reads as the same sort of garment. Proper Cloth offers no indigo cotton pique among its knits, so we chose a pure linen jersey in a light slate melange, which gives a solid, textured knit surface but in a lighter, cooler cloth and a greyer colour. Proper Cloth also does not make ribbed knit trims, so the collar is a soft one-piece collar and the cuffs are soft single-button barrel cuffs, both cut from the shirt cloth, with its polo hem used in place of the stepped hem.
A pure linen jersey, knitted rather than woven, from 40s yarn and very light in weight. The yarn's natural slub and the melange colouring give a quiet, uneven surface in a light slate grey that shifts a little with the light. It drapes softly with a slight give, and like any linen it breathes well and will crease and soften with wear.
