Lilac Cotton Oxford Cloth Button-Down Shirt
Drake's treats the oxford cloth button-down as a central piece of its range, a shirt whose form has changed little in about a hundred years. This lilac version is cut to a regular silhouette and made in the company's Somerset factory with single-needle seams. The collar has a brushed interlining that floats free of the outer cloth, so it rolls softly rather than lying flat. It is meant to work across occasions, with a tie and tailoring or worn open with casual clothes.

We chose a lilac oxford in solid cotton because it matches the colour, weave and fibre of the original most closely. To keep the soft roll of the collar we set the Soft Ivy button-down collar with a soft front placket and soft one-button cuffs, and kept the chest pocket, curved hem and mother of pearl buttons. The only lilac oxford available is a heavy weave, so the shirt has more body than Drake's midweight cloth. Proper Cloth's pocket here is angled at the top rather than a plain patch, and the specification does not record a box pleat at the back.
A heavy oxford in pale lilac, woven from two-ply 40s cotton, which gives it a substantial but not thick hand. The cloth is solid in colour with the slightly textured surface usual for oxford. It is a hard-wearing cloth that softens with repeated washing.
