Light Blue Ticking Stripe Cotton Oxford Cloth Button-Down Shirt

This is a striped version of the oxford cloth button-down, the American shirt that has been worn with tailoring and casual clothes alike for about a hundred years. Drake's make it in their own Somerset factory with a regular cut, single-needle seams and a soft, unfused button-down collar meant to roll. The narrow ticking stripe in light blue on white keeps it easy to wear with a jacket and tie or on its own.

Japanese Light Blue Stripe Sea Island Oxford Button Down

We chose a light blue and white striped oxford in pure cotton, the closest match in Proper Cloth's range to Drake's narrow ticking stripe. We kept the main details: a soft unfused button-down collar, a front placket, one-button cuffs, a single chest pocket, a curved hem and mother-of-pearl buttons. Proper Cloth offers a barrel cuff and an angled pocket where Drake's use a rounded cuff and a straight patch pocket, and the back is a split yoke rather than one with a box pleat, so the shirt is made that way.

A Japanese oxford woven from West Indian Sea Island cotton grown in Barbados, in 40s single-ply yarn. It has a soft hand with a slight sheen and is listed as a heavier oxford, with a fine light blue pencil stripe on white. It suits wear in any season.
