Ice Blue Cotton Oxford Cloth Button-Down Shirt
Drake's treats the oxford cloth button-down as central to its range, and this version in ice blue is its considered take on a shirt that has changed little in a hundred years. It is made in the company's own factory in Somerset with single-needle seams and a brushed, floating interlining, so the button-down collar rolls softly rather than lying flat. The cut is regular, and the shirt is meant to work across the week, from under a jacket and tie to worn open with casual trousers.
In Proper Cloth
Clark Light Blue Oxford Cloth
We chose a solid light blue oxford in all cotton, the closest Proper Cloth equivalent to the pale, plain oxford of the original, though it is a heavier cloth than Drake's midweight. To keep the soft roll of the collar we specified the Soft Ivy button-down collar with a soft placket and soft cuffs, and we matched the mother of pearl buttons, single chest pocket and curved hem. Where Proper Cloth's options differ, we took a barrel one-button cuff, an angled pocket and a split yoke in place of the rounded cuff and plain patch pocket.
A heavy oxford woven from Pima cotton with a single-ply warp and a two-ply weft, giving a cloth with noticeable weight that stops short of feeling thick. It is a plain light blue with the slight texture of an oxford basket weave, and it is made to stand up to frequent washing, softening with wear.
