Grey Cotton Oxford Cloth Button-Down Shirt
Drake's treats the oxford cloth button-down as a central piece of its range, and this grey version is its attempt at a definitive one. The idea goes back about a century to the sporting and campus shirts of the early 1900s, and its main feature is a soft collar that rolls rather than lying flat. It is made at the company's own factory in Somerset with single-needle seams and a floating, brushed interlining in the collar. The cut is regular, and the shirt is meant to be worn with or without a tie, from tailoring through to casual clothes.

Clark Grey Oxford Cloth
We chose a solid light grey oxford in all cotton, the closest match to the original's colour and plain, slightly textured weave. We set a soft button-down collar, a soft front placket, a single chest pocket, a curved hem and mother of pearl buttons to follow the Drake's details. The cloth on offer is a heavy oxford, so the shirt has more body than the midweight original. Proper Cloth's options also led us to a one-button barrel cuff and a split yoke, and no box pleat is listed in the design as made.
A heavy oxford woven from Pima cotton in two-ply yarns, with a solid soft light grey colour. It feels substantial without being thick, and like most oxfords it is hard-wearing and softens with washing.
