Grey Cotton Two-Pocket Long Point Collar Work Shirt
This is a brushed work shirt in charcoal grey with two chest pockets. It takes the old utility shirt as its starting point, the kind made for workshop wear with pockets for small tools and notes. Drake's cut it from a soft Japanese blend of cotton and yak and made it in Italy, giving it a long point collar, flapped chest pockets and a relaxed, slightly boxy body. It works as a shirt on its own or as a light outer layer.
In Proper Cloth
Canclini Grey Melange Twill Beacon Flannel
We chose a grey melange twill flannel from Canclini because it is brushed and solid in colour, which comes closest to the soft, muted look of the cotton and yak cloth. Proper Cloth does not offer a cotton and yak blend, so the shirt is all cotton. We kept the two pointed-flap chest pockets, the one-button barrel cuffs, the front placket, the curved hem and the corozo buttons. Proper Cloth has no long point collar, so we used its soft point collar instead, and the shirt was made with a split yoke.
The cloth is a heavyweight cotton flannel woven by Canclini near Lake Como in 50s two-ply yarn. It has a twill weave and is brushed on the surface, giving it a dense, soft hand. The colour is a varied grey melange with no pattern, and it is sturdy enough to wear on its own or layered.
