Green Chequerboard Block Print Cotton Camp Collar Short Sleeve Shirt

Drake's short-sleeved camp collar shirt belongs to the long line of loose, open-necked holiday shirts made for high summer. This version is cut in a lightweight cotton that has been block printed by hand in a large green and ecru chequerboard, so the edges of each square show the small irregularities of the printing. It has a loose fit, a plain front and a square hem, and is meant to be worn untucked in hot weather. It is made in Somerset.

Seabrook Green Medium Gingham Poplin

Proper Cloth does not offer a block-printed chequerboard, so we chose a very light green gingham poplin as the closest match for colour, weight and a bold check. We picked the soft one-piece collar to give the open, unstructured line of a camp collar, and set short sleeves, a single square patch pocket, a straight hem and mother of pearl buttons to match the original. Proper Cloth's front options led us to a French front, which is plainer than the placket recorded on the Drake's shirt.

A very lightweight 100% cotton poplin in 50s yarns from Proper Cloth's Seabrook range, smooth and without surface texture. It is woven in a medium-scale green gingham, and it is light and cool enough for warm weather.
