Yellow Check Cotton Button-Down Shirt
Drake's treats the button-down as the core of its shirtmaking, and this version is cut in a lightweight cotton poplin with a large ecru and yellow check, crossed with rust, blue and sage green. It is made in the company's Somerset factory with single-needle seams and a regular silhouette. The collar has a brushed interlining that floats free of the cloth, so it rolls softly rather than sitting flat. It is a casual shirt for warm days that still looks tidy with tailoring.

Tomato Gold and Navy Indian Madras
We chose an Indian madras because it is the closest Proper Cloth cotton to a light, warm-weather check in a warm, yellow-led palette, accepting that its colours run redder and darker than the original's. We matched the button-down collar in a soft construction to suggest the original's rolling collar, along with a one-button cuff, a single chest pocket, a curved hem and mother of pearl buttons. Proper Cloth's cuff and pocket options are a barrel cuff and a square pocket, so we used those, and no back box pleat is part of this build.
A madras woven in Chennai from 40s single-ply cotton in a plain weave, very light and open, with a soft, airy hand. The check combines tomato red, gold and faded navy, and is finished with some fade already in it so the colours do not run when washed at home.
