Ecru Cotton-Hemp Camp Collar Short Sleeve Shirt

The open-collared holiday shirt has been made under many names for decades, and its basic form has changed little: short sleeves, a square hem and a collar that lies open at the neck. Drake's version keeps to that plain outline, with a neat open collar, a loose cut, a plain front and a straight hem. It is made in Somerset from a lightweight Japanese cloth of cotton and hemp, and is intended as a shirt for the hottest weeks of summer, worn untucked.

Japanese Natural Slub Chambray

We looked for an undyed, textured plain weave that would give the dry, slightly irregular surface and pale ecru colour that hemp brings to the original. Proper Cloth offers no cotton and hemp blend in this shade, so we chose a Japanese slub chambray in a natural cream, which carries similar speckling and uneven yarn character. We set a soft one-piece collar to sit open like a camp collar, a plain French front, a single chest pocket, a straight hem and mother of pearl buttons. Proper Cloth's short sleeve came with a turned cuff rather than a plain hem, and the pocket was made with rounded corners.

A Japanese chambray woven in a plain weave from 16s cotton yarns, left undyed in a creamy natural shade. The slubbed yarns and natural flecks give it a visibly textured, organic surface, and at a medium-heavy weight it has more body than a typical summer shirting, softening with washing.
