Black Check Cotton Two-Pocket Work Shirt

A heavy cotton work shirt with two chest pockets, made in Somerset, England. It follows the pattern of the workshop overshirt, with flap pockets that hold small items so the trousers do not have to. The cloth is a Japanese heavy cotton with a slubbed surface, woven in a large black and ecru check. It is made with single-needle seams and a stand collar, and is intended for practical use during the week as much as for weekends.

Canclini Dark Grey Plaid Beacon Flannel

We chose a heavyweight brushed cotton flannel in a plaid, as it comes closest to the weight and soft surface of the original. Proper Cloth had no black and ecru check of this kind, so we used a tonal dark grey plaid, which keeps the dark colour but has much less contrast. We matched the one-button barrel cuffs, flap chest pockets, curved hem and corozo buttons. The stand collar is not available, so we used a soft Franklin point collar, and the seams are stitched at a quarter inch.

A 100% cotton flannel from Canclini, the Italian mill near Lake Como that has been weaving since 1925, made from 50s two-ply yarn. It is heavy, dense and brushed to a soft finish, and has a tonal dark grey plaid. It is warm enough to wear over other layers or by itself.
