Rust Cotton Needlecord Button-Down Shirt
Drake's button-down shirt belongs to a line of collegiate shirting that has changed little in a hundred years, and it sits close to the centre of the house's range. This version is cut in a rust needlecord for autumn and spring, made in the company's Somerset factory with a regular body and a soft collar that rolls rather than lies flat. It is intended to be worn with other textured cloths, such as corduroy trousers, Shetland knitwear and heavier tweeds.

In Proper Cloth
Japanese Camel Melange Pincord Corduroy
We chose a Japanese fine-wale cotton corduroy because it comes closest to the narrow rib and soft brushed hand of a needlecord. Proper Cloth had no matching rust in this quality, so we took a camel melange, which keeps the warm, earthy register but in a lighter and more varied shade. We set a soft Ivy button-down collar to give the roll of the original, a single-button cuff, a one-piece yoke, a curved hem and mother of pearl buttons. The available pocket shapes did not include a pointed pocket with a pen slot, so we used an angled pocket instead.
A Japanese pincord woven in 100% cotton from 50s single-ply yarns, with a very fine wale and a soft, medium-weight hand. The camel melange colour is mottled rather than flat, which gives the solid cloth some depth. It suits cooler months and can be worn either tucked or untucked.
