Navy and Brown Check Cotton Two-Pocket Work Shirt
Drake's work shirt takes the plain, practical shirt worn for outdoor labour and makes it in a checked, brushed cotton. It has two pleated chest pockets closed with buttoned flaps, so small items can go in the shirt rather than the trousers. The spread collar and rounded cuffs keep it easy to move in. It is made in Somerset with the single-needle seams and mother of pearl buttons Drake's uses across its shirting, and it is meant for casual wear, on its own or as a light outer layer.

In Proper Cloth
Canclini Beige and Grey Plaid Beacon Flannel
We chose a brushed cotton flannel from Canclini in a large plaid. It has the soft, checked character of the original, though not its colours. Proper Cloth's ready cloths had no navy and brown check that fitted, so we accepted a beige and grey plaid and a heavier flannel in place of the herringbone twill. We matched the details closely: a soft spread collar, one-button cuffs, a front placket, two pleated flap chest pockets, a curved hem and mother of pearl buttons. Where an exact equivalent was not offered, we used Proper Cloth's barrel cuff and its safari pocket.
An all-cotton flannel woven by Canclini near Lake Como in 2-ply 50s yarns. It is brushed to a dense, soft hand and is heavy enough to wear as a layer. The pattern is a detailed plaid in cool beige and grey.
