Cream and Navy Check Brushed Cotton Two-Pocket Work Shirt
Drake's two-pocket work shirt borrows from the plain, practical shirts made for outdoor labour and adapts them to the house's shirtmaking standards. It is cut from a substantial brushed cotton in a large cream and navy check, with pleated button-flap chest pockets that can carry small things so the trouser pockets stay empty. The spread collar and rounded cuffs have soft brushed interlinings, and the shirt is sewn single-needle in Somerset with mother of pearl buttons. It is intended as a casual shirt, worn alone or as a light outer layer, in town or outdoors.

Canclini Beige and Grey Plaid Beacon Flannel
We chose a brushed cotton flannel from Canclini because its large plaid and soft, napped surface come closest to the feel of the original, though in a cooler beige and grey palette rather than cream and navy with rust. We matched the main details: a soft spread collar, one-button barrel cuffs, a front placket, two chest pockets, a curved hem and mother of pearl buttons, all with soft unlined construction in keeping with the floating interlinings of the original. Proper Cloth offers its utility pockets in place of Drake's pleated flap pockets, and its pattern adds a split yoke, so we accepted both.
A 100% cotton flannel woven by Canclini near Lake Como from 50s two-ply yarns, brushed on the surface to give a soft, dense hand at a heavy weight. It has a beige and grey plaid and is sturdy enough to wear as an overshirt, while staying breathable enough for indoors.
