Navy Stone Wash Cotton Military Overshirt

Drake's military overshirt is a shirt-jacket that draws on 20th-century British uniform dress, a line of clothing that sits between workwear and military kit. Its two gusseted chest pockets with pointed button flaps are the main reference to that history, and two pockets inside add practical storage. It is cut from a stone-washed English cotton twill of midweight, finished with horn buttons and made in Portugal. The boxy cut is meant to be worn open or closed as a light outer layer over a shirt or knitwear.

Rustic Navy Slub Twill

We chose a dark navy cotton twill from Japan because it matches the original's colour, fibre and weave, and its slubby yarns give the kind of irregular, worn-in surface that stone washing gives the Drake's cloth. We set a point collar, a soft front placket, a straight hem and brown horn buttons to follow the original. Proper Cloth does not offer gusseted pockets with pointed flaps, so we used its utility chest pockets as the closest workwear equivalent, and its build adds barrel cuffs and a one-piece yoke.

A heavyweight 100% cotton twill woven in Japan from thick, slubbed single-ply yarns, giving a rough, uneven hand and a rustic surface. The colour is a dark navy with slight variation from the slub, and the cloth is made to be hard-wearing and casual.
