Indigo Cotton Smock

The Drake's smock is a pullover overshirt that takes its cue from the working garments of sailors and dock hands, layers made to cope with wind, salt water and hard daily use. Drake's cuts it in Japanese indigo cotton to a short, hip length with a loose, boxy body and dropped shoulders. It fastens at the neck with corozo buttons and has two chest pockets and a pocket inside. It is meant as a plain casual layer, as much at home away from the coast as on it.

Rustic Navy Slub Twill

We chose a Japanese slub twill in dark navy because its uneven, rustic surface comes closest to the washed, irregular texture of the original's indigo cotton. We set a soft unfused point collar, a popover front, natural corozo buttons and a straight hem to follow the smock's shape and fastening. Proper Cloth offers no plain hemmed sleeve, so we used a soft one-button barrel cuff instead. We took angled pockets as the nearest match to the mitred patch pockets, and the build includes a one-piece yoke.

A heavyweight cotton twill woven in Japan from thick single-ply yarns, with a pronounced slub that gives it a coarse, rustic hand. It is a dark navy with slight variation through the cloth, and it is built for hard, casual wear.
