Navy Moleskin Artist Chore Jacket
Drake's Artist Chore Jacket is a variation on the house five-pocket chore coat, made in Portugal from a heavy 11.2oz cotton moleskin in solid navy. It takes its cue from the loose working smocks and jackets that painters and sculptors wore in their studios during the twentieth century. The design pairs raglan sleeves and a stand collar with knotted fabric buttons and large patch pockets. It is cut boxy and relaxed, and is meant to be thrown on as a light outer layer, often worn open.
In Proper Cloth
Portuguese Navy Brushed Chambray
Proper Cloth offers no moleskin, so we chose a heavy Portuguese chambray in dark navy that has been brushed for a soft, slightly napped surface, which comes closest to moleskin's warmth and handle. We matched the band collar, the rounded chest patch pocket, the single-button barrel cuffs, the straight hem and the double-stitched seams. Knot buttons, a concealed closure and raglan sleeves are not among the options, so we used navy corozo buttons on a soft front placket, and the shirt is built with a conventional yoke and set-in sleeves.
A 100% cotton chambray woven in Portugal from sturdy 20s single-ply yarns, in a solid dark navy. It is brushed on the surface, which gives it a soft hand and a little extra warmth, closer in feel to flannel than to an ordinary chambray. It is medium-heavy and holds its shape well, though it is lighter and less dense than a true moleskin.
