Bleach Wash Denim Field Shirt
The field shirt is Drake's take on the overshirt, a garment that comes from both workwear and military dress and now works as a light outer layer. This one draws on early twentieth-century work shirts, with two chest pockets, adjustable cuffs and a straight hem. It is cut boxy, with a dropped shoulder, in a bleach-washed denim, and has mother of pearl buttons that make it a little less rugged. It is meant to be worn open or closed over a T-shirt or a lighter shirt, and the denim is expected to soften and fade with wear.

Albiate Light Wash Indigo Denim
We looked for a heavily bleached indigo cloth that would come close to the pale, slightly uneven blue of the original. We chose a light wash indigo twill from Albiate, which is garment washed after sewing so that it fades at the seams the way a washed denim does. We matched the point collar, barrel cuffs with adjustable buttons, front placket, two chest pockets, straight hem and mother of pearl buttons. Proper Cloth has no exact match for Drake's tabbed patch pockets or its internal pocket, so we used its utility pockets and left the internal pocket out.
This is a 100% cotton twill from the Italian mill Albiate. Proper Cloth lists it as medium weight, with a smooth finish and an easy drape. It is dyed deep with indigo and then bleach washed after sewing, which leaves a light indigo with gentle tonal variation and fading along the seams.

- The light indigo color of this fabric features subtle variation and is achieved through the reaction of the indigo dye with a heavy bleach wash. From sourcing the perfect denim from Japan and a 185-year-old mill in Italy to testing washes with our factory for months on end, we labor over every detail of our washed indigo shirts. After being cut and sewn, the shirts are then garment washed using either a light enzyme, soda, or bleaching process. While garment washed indigo and denim shirts are a popular product in the ready-to-wear market, they haven‘t previously been available in a custom fit or design due to the bulk production required for the washing process. We‘ve worked closely with our suppliers to bring you the first truly custom garment washed indigo and denim shirts on the market. Premium, carefully crafted shirts, made to your exact specifications. Note that, due to the special nature of the garment washing process, this fabric can only be made using soft, unfused collars, cuffs, and fronts/plackets.
