Stone Wash Selvedge Denim Field Shirt
Drake's field shirt is an overshirt that draws on two lines of descent, workwear and military dress, and looks in particular to the field jackets of the mid-century. It has a straight, boxy body and two flapped chest pockets, and is cut from a lightweight Japanese selvedge denim of cotton and linen, dyed indigo and made up in Portugal. The cloth is dry to the touch and light, so the piece is meant to be worn as an outer layer in warmer weather, with the indigo deepening and fading as it is worn.

Dark Wash Lightweight Indigo Chambray
We chose a lightweight indigo chambray because it is the closest Proper Cloth cloth to the original's light, solid indigo, although it is all cotton and has no selvedge. We matched the soft unfused point collar, the one-button barrel cuffs, the front placket, the straight hem and the brown horn buttons, and used utility pockets to stand in for the flapped field pockets. Proper Cloth does not offer the ecru under-collar facing, the white contrast topstitching or the vertical front seaming, so we used double stitching and a double-stitched yoke to give the shirt a similar workwear build.
A lightweight chambray of 100% cotton in 32s yarns, dyed a bright, saturated indigo and given only a very light bleach wash, so it starts out smooth and even in colour. It softens noticeably after the first wash and fades gradually with laundering, which brings out more variation in the colour over time.

- A very light bleach wash and smooth yarns make this a quite even-looking chambray right out of the box. Over time, and after washing, the rich, bright indigo dye will fade out a bit, improving the softness and visual interest of the fabric. As such, only wash with like colors. This fabric will break in significantly after the first wash, like the classic chambray shirt you always wanted. Finish: No Treatment.
