Black Linen Games Tunic
The Games Tunic belongs to Drake's Games family, but its references come from military dress more than from old sportswear. The back carries a pleat and half-belt taken from the trench coat, and the loop collar and buttoned cuffs come from traditional shirtmaking. Made in Italy from washed linen, it has a boxy, jacket-length body built like a shirt, with fitted sleeves. It is meant to be worn as a light outer layer over a shirt or T-shirt.
In Proper Cloth
Japanese Washed Black Heavy Rustic Linen Twill
We chose a washed black Japanese linen to match the original's all-linen cloth and its soft, faded black surface. We picked safari pockets, a straight hem and mother of pearl buttons to stay close to the military-style front. Proper Cloth offers no loop collar, no back half-belt and no hip bellows pockets, so we used a soft point collar and accepted a plainer back and a front with chest pockets only. The cloth is also a heavier twill rather than a midweight plain weave, which gives the shirt more body as an outer layer.
This is a 100% linen twill woven in Japan at about 348 gsm, much heavier than ordinary shirting linen. The twill and natural slubs give it a textured surface. It is solid washed black with a faded look, and the shirt is washed after sewing, so it feels soft from the start, puckers slightly at the seams and creases readily as it is worn.
