Grey Houndstooth Check Tweed Games Blazer Mk. VII
The Mk. VII Games blazer is a single-breasted jacket in a small charcoal and black houndstooth tweed, made in Italy. The Games line is cut a little shorter and fuller than Drake's tailored jackets, and it sits between a soft sport coat and a structured blazer. It has no canvas, a natural shoulder and an unlined body, so it can be worn every day and in most weather. The tweed is chosen because it softens and gains character the longer it is worn.
In Proper Cloth
Grey Houndstooth Italian Flannel Bedford Jacket
No heavyweight houndstooth tweed was available among Proper Cloth's options, so we chose a dense brushed wool flannel in a small grey houndstooth as the closest match in pattern, scale and warmth. We copied the construction: no canvas, a two-button notch lapel, a ventless back, partial lining and dark horn buttons. Proper Cloth's flap pockets on the hip are patch pockets, and we used them because they match the casual character of the original. Most of the difference is in the cloth. Flannel gives a smoother, softer surface than the dry texture of tweed.
The cloth is a dense 100% wool flannel woven by Lanificio Angelico in Italy and brushed to a very soft finish. It is a medium-heavy autumn and winter weight. The houndstooth is made up of several shades of grey with fairly strong contrast, so it reads as a lively check rather than a near-solid. Flannel of this kind wears warm and drapes softly, but it is smoother and less hardy than tweed.
