Navy Cotton Drawstring Shorts
A pair of navy drawstring shorts in a fine Japanese cotton twill, made in Italy. The shape takes its cue from mid-century athletic shorts, with a high rise, an easy straight leg and a hem that falls above the knee. A flat drawstring waist allows the fit to be adjusted without bulk. The shorts are meant for warm weather, whether at home, in town or by the sea.

Navy Cadet Chino
We chose a solid navy cotton twill to match the colour, cloth and plain surface of the original. We set a drawstring elastic waistband with a button fly, angled side pockets and patch back pockets, and left the front unpleated, as on the original. Proper Cloth's version is a chino, so the result is a trouser rather than a short, and the cloth is a heavier two-ply twill. We also used light brown horn buttons where the original has mother of pearl.
A navy two-ply cotton twill woven in Portugal, at about 9.6oz. It is a left-hand twill, dense and substantial, and holds its shape well. Its drape is a little softer than a right-hand weave would give, and it softens gradually with washing.
