Stone Wash 12.7oz Selvedge Denim Five-Pocket Shorts
A pair of five-pocket shorts cut from a 12.7oz selvedge denim woven in Italy and given a stone wash, made in Portugal. The design takes the familiar workwear jean as its starting point and shortens it for warm weather, keeping the rivets and contrast stitching of the original form. The rise sits a little higher than usual and the leg is relaxed with a slight taper. The front pockets are cut on a slant. They are meant for casual summer wear.
In Proper Cloth
Sonoma Stretch Slim Jean in Light Wash Denim
We chose Proper Cloth's light wash denim because it comes closest to the faded mid blue of the stone washed original, and the garment wash leaves similar wear marks at the seams and pockets. We set the details to match where we could: a button fly with metal tack buttons, belt loops, jeans style patch back pockets and gold thread in place of the tan contrast stitching. Proper Cloth makes its denim only as full-length jeans in the standard five-pocket pattern, so this version is a pair of trousers rather than shorts, with conventional front pockets and a coin pocket instead of the slanted openings.
An 11.5oz denim woven and dyed in Turkey, mostly cotton with 1% elastane for a little give. The garment is washed, bleached and sanded after sewing, which fades it at the thighs, knees, hips and seams, and the denim keeps softening with wear.
