Green Linen Drawstring Shorts
Drake's drawstring shorts are a summer garment cut from a heavy, densely woven Japanese linen that is garment dyed and washed after making. The design draws on American athletic and sportswear of the mid-century, with a flat drawstring waist, slanted front pockets and a single welted rear pocket. A high rise and a relaxed leg ending above the knee give them a deliberately period proportion. They are made in Portugal and intended for hot weather, in town or by the sea.
In Proper Cloth
Laurel Linen Palermo Pant
We chose a faded green plain-weave linen from Proper Cloth, as the nearest match to the soft, washed green of the original. We kept the solid colour, the drawstring waist, the angled front pockets, the single buttoned rear pocket and the absence of pleats. Proper Cloth makes this design as a full-length trouser, so we set a vintage chino cut with a wide hem to keep the relaxed character. Its waistband is elasticated with a drawstring and has a zip fly and button, and we used light brown horn buttons because mother of pearl was not offered.
A 100% linen plain weave woven in Portugal, of medium weight, in a faded laurel green. It has a soft, broken-in hand and shows the natural slubs of the linen. It creases readily and drapes loosely.
