St. JOHN by Drake's Corn Needlecord Five-Pocket Trousers
These are five-pocket trousers cut in corn-coloured needlecord, made in Portugal under the St. JOHN by Drake's label. The pattern follows the familiar jeans layout, but in a 10 wale cotton corduroy woven in Yorkshire, which gives the cloth a fine rib and a softer look than denim. The leg is slim and straight with a mid-rise, and copper rivets reinforce the pocket corners. They are meant as an adaptable casual trouser that sits easily with knitwear, shirts and jackets.

Stratton Hazel Stretch Corduroy
We chose a solid cotton corduroy in a warm hazel as the nearest Proper Cloth match to the corn shade and the soft, ribbed surface of the original. We kept the five-pocket arrangement with a coin pocket, a zip fly with a metal tack button, belt loops and a flat front. Proper Cloth offers no copper rivets or 10 wale cord in this colour range, so we accepted a finer 13 wale cloth with a little stretch and finished the hem with a chain stitch.
Stratton Hazel is a 13 wale corduroy woven in Spain from 98% cotton and 2% elastane, at about 345 g. It has a dense, velvety pile in a solid hazel brown, a medium-heavy weight suited to autumn and winter, and a slight give from the elastane.
