Black Barathea Wool Dinner Trousers
These are dinner trousers made to partner a black dinner jacket and complete a black-tie outfit. They follow the established conventions of evening dress: a grosgrain stripe down each outseam, a waistband faced to match, and side adjusters so the trousers sit at the waist without a belt. The cut is clean with a slight taper, and they come with unfinished hems so they can be finished at the right length for the wearer's evening shoes.

Loro Piana Fabric Black S150s Dover Dress Pant
We chose a solid black Loro Piana merino in a fine S150s twill as the closest plain black worsted available. We matched the single forward pleat, the extended button tab, the faux horn buttons with a zip fly, the vertical side seam pockets and a buttoned rear pocket. Proper Cloth had no barathea cloth and no grosgrain stripe or facing, so the trousers are made without them. As made they also have belt loops in place of side adjusters, so the result reads as a formal black dress trouser rather than a true dinner trouser.
A black S150s merino wool twill woven by Loro Piana in Italy, at a medium weight of 270 g. It is a fine, smooth and dense cloth with a soft hand and a natural drape. It holds its shape well through a long day of wear.
