Brown Linen Drawstring Shorts
Drake's drawstring shorts are cut from a heavy Japanese linen that is garment dyed and washed to a soft, slightly uneven brown. The design draws on mid-century American athletic and sports clothing, with a flat drawstring waist, a high rise and a loose leg that flares a little at the hem. Made in Portugal, they are intended for warm weather, in town or by the sea.
In Proper Cloth
Beige Linen Palermo Pant
We built this version on Proper Cloth's Palermo pant, which keeps the drawstring elastic waist, and chose a plain-weave Portuguese linen in a solid colour as the nearest match to the original's cloth. We set angled side pockets, a buttoned rear pocket and no pleats to follow the Drake's details. The Palermo is a full-length trouser with a zip fly, so the result is a trouser rather than a pair of shorts. No heavy, garment-dyed brown linen was available, so we took a warm beige in a medium weight.
A pure linen woven in Portugal, in a plain weave of medium weight with a soft hand and the natural slub of the fibre showing. It is a solid warm beige, a little lighter than classic khaki, and it creases readily as it is worn.
