White Cotton Bib Front Dinner Shirt
Drake's dinner shirt is a white formal shirt for black tie, built around a textured bib front and double cuffs. It belongs to the long tradition of the evening shirt, where a stiffer, patterned panel sits beneath the open front of a dinner jacket. It is made in the brand's Somerset factory with single-needle seams and a floating interlining, the same methods used for its everyday British-made shirts. It is intended to be worn with a dinner suit, bow tie and cufflinks.
In Proper Cloth
Thomas Mason White Luxury Broadcloth
We chose a fine white two-ply broadcloth from Thomas Mason for the body, since it is a light, plain-woven cotton close to the original's shirting. We then added Proper Cloth's piqué tuxedo front to stand in for the bib, and set a semi spread collar, French cuffs, mother of pearl buttons and a curved hem to follow the original. Proper Cloth lists its collars and cuffs by construction rather than by floating interlining, so we chose the soft versions as the nearest match, and it does not offer whipped buttons of a stated size, so we took its standard mother of pearl.
A white broadcloth woven by the Italian mill Thomas Mason from 120s two-ply Egyptian cotton. It is very light, smooth and slightly lustrous, presses crisply, and creases fairly readily in wear.
